06/04/2012· I move bees from box to box all the time. You just have to remember that bees will ALWAYS try to return to within 2 feet of the old hive location. Move the hive over a few feet, put the new hive in the exact spot the old sat and transfer your bees and frames. Then move the old hive well away so they will not return to it.

The problem arises when the queen decides she needs to relocate part of the hive, aka “swarm”, to remedy the situation. In our case, the center two frames were full of brood, sandwiched by 4 frames of capped honey.
